Tenbury Wells

Tenbury Wells, also known as “the town in the orchard,” is less than a

10 minute drive away. This rural town has a thriving high street full of independent businesses, cafes and eateries.

Shopping

Most of the shops are independently owned and situated in Teme Street, Market Street and Cross Street and a short stroll can provide you with as much choice as you would get in very much larger towns and cities.

Tenbury has recently seen the opening of a small Tesco supermarket, meaning that people in the local area can now buy all their essentials on the doorstep.

A variety of small local shops, offering a local shopping experience, are dotted along the main street, selling a range of food produced locally; The Barn Farm Shop, Swifts the Bakers, The Smiling Goat Cheese Shop, Piglets Butchers and The Little Fish Shop all offer excellent quality products.

Other shops around the town include an electrical supplier, a newsagent, a hardware store, an independent ladies clothing shop, two gift shops, two jewellers and a wealth of hairdressers and beauticians.

A highlight of Teme Street is certainly Mr Thom’s, where you can find a treasure trove of sweet treats. As well as selling a range of old fashion sweets, Belgian chocolates and fudge, Mr Thom’s also sells locally made breads and cakes.

If you are in the area it really is worth a visit.

The Regal

The Regal Cinema in the centre of the town is a real focal point on Teme Street, and this recently refurbished 1930’s cinema is as attractive on the exterior as it is on the interior. The inside is decorated with fine art-deco murals, painted by the celebrated artist George Legg, while the new frontage, complete with neon signage, retains its original art-deco appearance.

As well as showing the latest blockbusters, the cinema also functions as a theatre hosting live celebrity performances, plays and concerts, along with the yearly pantomime by the local amateur dramatics group. The Regal also features a fully licensed bar, coffee facilities and snacks.

Burford House

Just a mile outside Tenbury is Burford House and Gardens.

Once a Georgian house set in seven acres of ornamental gardens, this is now a garden centre, cafe, garden and retail outlet.

A children’s playground, ornamental duck ponds and a magnificent garden covering the whole of the rear of the house makes this a great place to visit with the family.

Events

Tenbury Music Festival

Tenbury Music Festival has something for everyone; a family friendly festival with multiple stages, renowned food and drink stalls, camping and of course music! It is a charitable event which takes place at the end of June each year on a Saturday at the Burgage Recreation Ground in the centre of town.

The Applefest

Each year Tenbury Wells, The Town in the Orchard, celebrates the 'Mighty Apple' with a one day event held on the town’s Burgage Recreational Area.

Applefest is held each year on the first Saturday in October. Over the past years the event has grown from being in the streets of Tenbury and on the town's car park to its present home on The Burgage. There is entertainment throughout the day; Alpacas, Morris Dancers and Punch and Judy are just some of the activities to enjoy. The festival marquee is where you can try your hand at apple juicing,  and view the vast apple displays. It really is a great fun day!

Tenbury Show

This local livestock and country pursuits show takes place on the first Saturday in August.

The Tenbury Countryside Show is a traditional countryside show featuring livestock, horses, horticulture and rural arts and crafts. Every year it continues to grow, with the team of dedicated volunteers putting on a fantastic show that attracts 1000's of visitors.

Exhibits, competitions, main ring events, animals, children’s entertainment, tractor pulling, trade stands, local ales and ciders and a local foods marquee are just some of the features of the show programme. It really is a great day out for everyone and not to be missed by young or old.
